Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts continues the hauntingly spectacular Lost Bride Trilogy with book two, The Mirror.

When Sonya MacTavish inherits the huge Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine, she has no idea that the house is haunted. The footsteps she hears at night, the doors slamming, the music playing, are not figments of her imagination. In her dreams she sees glimpses of the past. In the present she finds portraits of brides. And when she has visions of an antique mirror, she is drawn to it, sensing it holds dark family secrets.

Then one night the mirror appears and Sonya glides through this looking glass, into the past—and sees a bride murdered on her wedding day, the circle of gold torn from her finger. It is a scene that will play out again and again—a centuries-old curse that must be broken—and a puzzle she must solve if there is any hope of breaking the curse.

I usually love Nora’s books but this was filled with tedious descriptions of her work projects, daily schedules, what they were cooking then only two pages about the witch. The first book was great. This dragged on with no answers. I skipped through most of it quickly.

And ghosties, bump in the nights, and the witch abound. This second book is background and filler to this trilogy and I enjoyed every second, as we continue on the quest. Cleo and Owen along with some of the brides get a glimpse into their own stories and the manor and its history “rock on”. Love the Clover and music inserts, Jack and Yoda make a sweet aside. Relax and enjoy, if you have not read the first book, grab it now because the next book will be the crescendo.

Normally love Nora Robert’s but this series moves too slowly and is highly repetitive. How often do you need to repeat the same incidents? Book would be better if it was half as long.

I feel ripped off. 448 pages which added nothing to the story. I loved the first book and looked forward to the second, but this one really disappointed me. I kept waiting for something to happen, but it never did.

Mirror???? What happened. It’s going strong and then just stops. No finish and no mention of a continuance of the book. Not like Nora!!
  • Unnecessary

This book, while charming, did very little to move the story forward. A lot of the same stuff from book 1. Lots of dinners at the manor. Some occasional mild “scares”. More dinners at the manor. Rinse, repeat. This story could’ve been wrapped up in the first book. It feels intentionally dragged out for no apparent reason other than to force a trilogy.

The first book was so much better. I was prepared to love this one. It was repetitive and slow, but I loved the characters, so I just kept going. If I had known the ending was going to be so abrupt and pointless, I’d have stopped. I think I’ve read pretty much all the Nora Roberts, some twice. And never have I been so disappointed.
