Description

An Instant New York Times, USA Today, and Indie Bestseller

A brand-new epic fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Joe Abercrombie, featuring a notorious band of anti-heroes on a delightfully bloody and raucous journey

Holy work sometimes requires unholy deeds.

Brother Diaz has been summoned to the Sacred City, where he is certain a commendation and grand holy assignment awaits him. But his new flock is made up of unrepentant murderers, practitioners of ghastly magic, and outright monsters. The mission he is tasked with will require bloody measures from them all in order to achieve its righteous ends.

Elves lurk at our borders and hunger for our flesh, while greedy princes care for nothing but their own ambitions and comfort. With a hellish journey before him, it's a good thing Brother Diaz has the devils on his side.

First book i’ve read after not reading for a couple of years. Can’t recommend enough, and very hard to put down. I have this as physical copy and not even in apple books. That’s how good i think this book is; writing a review for a digital copy I don’t have. Do yourself a favor and read this.

I read the author’s “Shattered Sea” series, which was moderately enjoyable. I found this book infuriating. Too many devil characters not having a role, or explanation of their role, during different phases of the book.

Ok. Story = overlooked female lead that is, surprise, attractive with heart of gold. Coupled with god like socially misunderstood companions. No intrigue because primary characters are never at risk of death. All characters literally talk in same format so you don’t event know the difference It takes ages to progress the story because character driven plot fails when each character is basic one dimension cliche that folds into themselves Had to dump this at 25%z what a dude
  • Amazing all around, full of hilarity and action!

This book was awesome all-around. Not only was it genuinely hilarious, it was also full of memorable action, characters, and world-building (medieval Europe but full of monsters, magic, and the threat of Elf invasion). The story followed a gang of misfits on a mission and all the characters were legitimately fun and memorable - it’s rare when there aren’t any boring POVs in a book, but that was certainly the case here. They all had their own unique afflictions and they all had their own moments to shine. It definitely made me excited for a series with these guys. This was my first Abercrombie book and I came away incredibly impressed. He’s such a good writer, I’m excited to read his other books.

Really disappointed in this book as I liked some of the authors other books. The characters are not very likable and there isn’t enough interest generated to keep me engaged.
