Can you love the dark when you know what it hides?

Some things aren’t supposed to exist outside of our imagination.

Thirteen years ago, monsters emerged from the shadows and plunged Kierse’s world into a cataclysmic war of near-total destruction. The New York City she knew so well collapsed practically overnight.

In the wake of that carnage, the Monster Treaty was created. A truce...of sorts.

But tonight, Kierse—a gifted and fearless thief—will break that treaty. She’ll enter the Holly Library...not knowing it’s the home of a monster.

He’s charming. Quietly alluring. Terrifying. But he knows talent when he sees it; it’s just a matter of finding her price.

Now she’s locked into a dangerous bargain with a creature unlike any other. She’ll sacrifice her freedom. She’ll offer her skills. Together, they’ll put their own futures at risk.

But he’s been playing a game across centuries—and once she joins in, there will be
no escape...

The use of names from other incredibly popular books was off putting. And I do mean all of the names. It was an easy enough read, but if you have read the most popular books of the last …5-7 years(?) you’ll see all the themes come together. Or maybe it’s just me seeing all the different components? The book had good plot, decent writing and the story moved at a decent pace. There is so much more that could have been … so much back story, so much lore… so so much that could have made this single book a series. The character development is to be found wanting, things happen so quickly it made my head spin. What could have been a slow burner, world building, huge box set was crammed into 400 pages. All that being said, I’m not mad. It was a good read and different from your typical monsters & magic. Good & evil. Good on this author for branching out. Look forward to the next and hopefully watching the writing style & characters grow in a realistic way.
