Description

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the acclaimed author of The Longest Ride and The Notebook comes an emotional, powerful novel about wondering if we can change—or even make our peace with—the path we’ve taken.

“Sparks is superb at what he does. The setting is postcard perfect. The characters are immensely likable. . . . This is a tidy miracle you can count on.”—The Washington Post

Tanner Hughes was raised by his grandparents, following in his grandfather’s military footsteps to become an Army Ranger. His whole life has been spent abroad, and he is the proverbial rolling stone: happiest when off on his next adventure, zero desire to settle down.  But when his grandmother passes away, her last words to him are find where you belong. She also drops a bombshell, telling him the name of the father he never knew—and where to find him.

Tanner is due at his next posting soon, but his curiosity is piqued, and he sets out for Asheboro, North Carolina, to ask around. He’s been in town less than twenty-four hours when he meets Kaitlyn Cooper, a doctor and single mom. They both feel an immediate connection; Tanner knows Kaitlyn has a story to tell, and he wants to hear it. To Kaitlyn, Tanner is mysterious, exciting—and possibly leaving in just a few weeks.

Meanwhile, nearby, eighty-three-year-old Jasper lives alone in a cabin bordering a national forest. With only his old dog, Arlo, for company, he lives quietly, haunted by a tragic accident that took place decades before. When he hears rumors that a white deer has been spotted in the forest—a creature of legend that inspired his father and grandfather—he becomes obsessed with protecting the deer from poachers.

As these characters’ fates orbit closer together, none of them is expecting a miracle . . . but that may be exactly what is about to alter their futures forever.

The plot felt boring and predictable, and read more like a Christian book than a romance. Which would be fine, if that’s what I wanted to read. However it’s not and I’d rather not be preached to unexpectedly.

A modern retelling of the story of Job. Nicholas Sparks does it again as he delves into present-day miracles with his newest work, “Counting Miracles.” While I was not immediately engrossed in this book as I have been with other books from Sparks in the past, I became absorbed as the characters developed & I began to learn more about them. Highly recommend if you are a person of faith. I realize I missed so many details while I was reading as I got to the final pages. I would like to reread it now knowing the full story & with my Bible as a companion.

Such a beautiful story filled with awesome characters. I really enjoyed the incredible insights on life. Put simply, this is the best Nicholas Sparks book I’ve ever read and I’m a huge fan and I have read most of his books. I highly highly recommend this book! A must read!
  • Underwhelming and Uninspired

Whatever “spark” Nicholas Sparks had in the beginning has died to a small pile of gray, nondescript ash. This could not have been more underwhelming, less creatively imagined, the characters more undeveloped and uninteresting and the storyline more uninspired… give me a moment while I try to come up with more words that begin with the letters “un.”

I have been a Nicholas Sparks fan for years. Usually I just can’t put his books down once I start reading. I actually pre ordered this book 6 months in advance. It was a waste of money and I have never been more disappointed! I can’t even say where it went wrong… because I wasn’t ever really engaged.. but it just seemed to get more boring as it went along… it makes me feel sad and ripped off… I will think twice before I buy the next one and will likely wait for the paperback or ultra cheap version …

Nicholas Sparks is my #1 author. I wait for his books like they’re my lifeline. He never disappoints and this book was everything I didn’t know I needed.
